The Southwest Georgia Breastfeeding Coalition (Breastfeeding Taskforce) works to promote a community/district that is breastfeeding friendly, where more and more mothers choose to breastfeed their infants because they receive adequate education and support. The coalition covers a 14 county area in Southwest Georgia (including Baker, Calhoun, Colquitt, Decatur, Dougherty, Early, Grady, Lee, Miller, Mitchell, Seminole, Terrell, Thomas, and Worth counties), however those from other areas are invited and welcome to participate. Our group typically meets twice a year (Spring & Fall) to collaborate and have a variety of speakers on current breastfeeding topics. Our mission is to improve breastfeeding initiation and duration rates in Southwest Georgia by promoting continuity of care and provide appropriate and accurate information and training through liaisons between birthing hospitals, physician’s offices and health departments.
